Retro Lab · TRS-80-style BASIC
BASIC
The language I started with in 1982, ready at a prompt the way it was on a TRS-80. Type numbered lines and RUN them, try one of 35 sample programs, or work through 25 short lessons. It also draws 64×48 graphics, so Snake and Breakout are in the samples.
Pick one to load and run it. It replaces the program in memory.
From printing your first line to drawing graphics. Each lesson has an example to run.
The program in memory. Edit it here or at the prompt; changes apply as you type.
Programs saved in this browser. You can also type SAVE "NAME", LOAD "NAME" and DIR.
Your current program is also kept automatically, so it's here next time you visit.
About this BASIC
This is the BASIC from RetroCode, my retro programming app, rebuilt to run on this site. It follows Microsoft BASIC as it shipped on the TRS-80: numbered lines, GOSUB, DATA, string functions, and a 64×48 block-graphics screen with PLOT, DRAW, BOX and CIRCLE. Programs run a few statements per frame, so a runaway loop never locks up the page; press Break (or Esc) to stop one, and CONT to carry on.
