Blackjack
Single-deck Blackjack from my 2023 Microsoft Store game, Simple Text BlackJack, now on a card table. Same house rules, now with insurance that pays and splits.
Three Peppers Gaming presents
Pick a bet to deal.
Keys: B bet 100, 1–0 bet 1,000–10,000, H hit, S stand, D double, P split, I/O insurance yes/no, N new game.
How to play
- Beat the dealer's hand without going over 21. Cards 2–10 count their number, J, Q and K count 10, and an Ace counts 11 or 1.
- The dealer shows one card face up and one face down. Hit for another card, Stand when you're done. Over 21 is a bust.
- Double on your first two cards: your bet doubles and you get exactly one more card.
- Split two cards of the same value into two hands, each with its own bet.
- When the dealer shows an Ace you can buy insurance. If the dealer has BlackJack, you get the insurance and your bet back.
Casino house rules
- BlackJack pays 3 x points (bet 100, win 300).
- BlackJack is an ACE and a FACE card. A 10 is not a face card.
- The deck is 52 cards without Jokers.
- The single deck is shuffled when the last card is used.
- The House draws on 16 or less and stands on 17.
- Insurance is offered when the House shows an Ace. It costs the same as your bet.
- If the House has BlackJack, insurance returns your insurance and your bet. Otherwise you lose the insurance and play continues.
- Double requires enough points to double your bet. You get one more card.
- Any two cards of the same value can be split once, with enough points for an equal bet. Split Aces get one card each.
- You start with 10000 points. The minimum bet is 100; other bets are multiples of 1000.
- Beat the House by reaching 50000 points. At 0 points, the House wins.
About this version
The original Simple Text BlackJack is a free Windows console game on the Microsoft Store, and its source is on GitHub. This version keeps its rules and wording and fixes a few things: insurance now pays as the help described, splitting works, the dealer's BlackJack is checked before you play, two BlackJacks push, Aces keep their value between totals, and a reshuffle can't deal a card that is already on the table.
